This product features a genuine wide whitewall sidewall style. This means that the bright white rubber is added directly to the tire sidewall during initial construction of the carcass, resulting in a truly integrated, high-quality product after vulcanization. Wide whitewall tires were a very popular choice from the 1930's through the end of the 1950's, and were eventually phased out of mainstream production by 1962. Originally, wide whitewall tires featured a bias ply construction, Coker Tire offers these tires in both original style bias ply and modern radial construction.
Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement. Rim diameters range from 14 to 23 inches in conventional bias ply tires, and we also offer two High Pressure tires in the Lester brand. There are many Pre-War fitments, such as the classic 600-16 size, but we also offer hard-to-find sizes for 17 and 18 inch wheels from the 1930's.
